The past few months, life has been something of a roller-coaster for me. I won’t bore you with the details, but a combination of a few personal milestones I’d sooner forget have taken their toll on my mental health.
For the most part, I’m fine. I can get through the day from beginning to end with little drama, but the anxiety monster hits at night when I’m trying to sleep. The second I hit the light switch and I’m under the covers, I’m wide awake and my brain goes into overdrive. This naturally has further effects the next day, when the sleep deprivation affects my focus and mood.
As a way to cheer me up, my best mate bought me a gift card for Hampson Beauty Clinic. Feeling like the weight of the world is on your shoulders can leave you feeling a bit tense, so I booked in an Elemis Back, Shoulder and Neck massage at their Tonbridge clinic.
When the day arrived to have my massage, I hopped on the bed and put my face in the hole at the end. Emelia, my masseuse, started working her magic on my shoulders.
It felt heavenly…
After what felt like a few seconds, Emelia was tapping my arm and saying ever so gently, “You’re all done.”
“Huh?” I said surprised, I thought she’d just started. But I spied the clock on the wall and, sure enough, my time was up.
“I think you might have dozed off for a bit,” Emelia said with a kind smile.
“I did?” I sat up and my shoulders felt like butter. Then I noticed there was a small bucket under the face hole with a tiny amount of drool in the bottom.
Emelia spotted where I was looking, “You dribbled a tiny bit.”
“Really? That’s so embarrassing!”
“Don’t be silly, you’re not the first and you certainly won’t be the last!” Emelia smiled, “We’re all friends here!”
I then proceeded to laugh like I hadn’t done in a long time.
“I can’t believe I did that!” I rolled my shoulders around, “I feel so relaxed.”
“I’m glad to hear it!”
I left Hampson not only feeling like I’d had the best night’s (or should I say afternoon’s) sleep, andsmiling from ear to ear.
I really needed that.
